mike's motivation for starting up this company was out of pure necessity from his prospective. after the market began to experience it's first of many volatility quakes in early 2007, mike found the need to hedge his portfolio and began to wonder if buy and hold was any longer a valid investing strategy.
many 2X leveraged long and short ETFs were just being introduced to the market and seemed like a good place to start building a hedge. after a while mike found that these ETFs did not track their index very well if held static in his portfolio. so he starting experimenting with mixing 2x long and 2X short ETFs.
then mike sought to neutrally weight the mix of ETFs to maintain equilibrium in volatile down & up swings. finding the write model was key and his background in math in engineering provided fertile ground to meet his objective.
once the model was established, he began to notice a vacuum of quantitative hedging tools available to individual retail investor and began posting comments to that effect on seekingalpha.com. many readers became interested and a product service was born.
